FOR ALADDIN

1.jpg

"Alfy, its a boy!" said my mom and I was jumping on the Sardar Bridge, Ahmedabad.  On January 7th 2019, my nephew was born. This was the most awaited moment in my life till date and I was miles far from my home. So for the projects of then on going course, Fabric Structure- II, I chose him as my theme. Through each weft getting woven, my love for him intensified, exponentially. Aladdin was the name I suggested for the baby, hadn't thought about any other factor, but him calling me his genie. This is for you my Aladdin.

Samples were woven on a 24 shaft Dobby loom. I used Dandelion as a visual reference as both babies and dandelions have many keywords in common. Merino wool and Cupro was used as warp. Acrylic, Merino wool, cupro, lycra and cotton high twist were used as wefts. Weave structures such as Double cloth, quilting, extra weft, extra warp, weft piling and terry were explored.
