A GRAND REVERIE
a collection of wallpapers for
This collection is a personal project made for the home furnishing brand Colefax and Fowler. Their designs have both western and antique influences. I tried to create a collection that has both elements and provides a Victorian aesthetic.
~misty morning at English garden, thousand lights of a grand night party and richness of palace arts are the themes for the surfaces
print 1 Royal repertoire
The print depicts the highly decorated renaissance style halls of the palace. The theme is rich in elements which are mostly inspired from nature. A very notable and common feature was the acanthus leaves. Different types of flowers, vines and geometrical elements are other important elements. I have attempted to combine those elements and tried to break them into parts to colour block the elements providing depth for the design.
print 2 English garden
The print takes one to a misty morning at the palace gardens consisting large roses, bushy lavenders and bluebells. Their bright colours catching your attention, the mist looks like a veil over them. The print aims to carry one through a fresh and magical experience.
print 3 Thousand lights
Shiny gold chandeliers and its sparkling crystals hung high in the ceiling and underneath it, you floating. Warm memories created under a thousand lights. The print explores the rich and interesting form of chandeliers and its elegant lighting.
This is a personal project. Let me know your feedback!
As I was designing for a brand
that has strong British aesthetics, the designs had to be based on British elements. After a lot f thought, I kept tinned talcum powders of YARDLEY London that Gulf aunties and uncles brought as my inspiration. I researched on the fragrances they provide and came up with a hypothetical palace, its garden and lavish interiors. This was heavily based on period drama books, movies and collections from Victorian and Albert online museum.
